Medical education in India:

Pursuing medical education in India is based on the qualifying score obtained by a student in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET) conducted once a year by National Testing Agency (NTA).
Qualifying in the NEET UG examination allows a student to pursue either MBBS or BDS courses in India. For appearing in the NEET Exam, a student needs to have:

  • 50 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) (40% for Backward category candidates) at the higher secondary level / 10 + 2 level
  • Completed 17 years  of age as on 31st December of the year of admission

Students need to complete the following procedures for pursuing medical education:

  • Complete the online registration through the official website
  • Payment of the registration fees
  • Uploading of necessary documents
  • Obtain print out of the confirmation page
  • Download the admit card
  • Appear for the exam
  • Check and confirm the OMR Sheet before declaration of results
  • Download the Score Card
  • Register for online counselling
  • Appear for physical document verification
  • Choice filling of colleges in each round of Central and State Counselling 
  • Complete admission process at the allotted college.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or MBBS as it is termed in India, is a 5.5 years undergraduate degree program. It includes 4.5 years of classroom study and internship in the last one year.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a 5 year professional bachelor’s degree in Dental procedures It consists of 4 year class room education and 1 year mandatory rotating internship.

The other medical courses that can be pursued with NEET Score are BAMS, BUMS, BHMS and BVSc

Bachelor of Pharmacy or B.Pharma is a 4 year undergraduate degree program pertaining to the process and methods of drug manufacturing and medicine delivery. The entrance exams applicable for pursuing B.Pharma are UPSEE, GPAT, BITSAT and MHT – CET. Diploma in Pharmacy or D.Pharma is a a 2 year Diploma Course in Pharmaceuticals. Some of the popular Entrance Exams a student can appear for studying D.Pharma are GPAT, NIPER JEE, KCET, etc BSc Nursing is a 4 year full time bachelors program

Post graduate courses in India:

Post Graduate Courses after MBBS is Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS). These are 3 years full time courses Master of Dental Surgery or MDS is a three years course Msc in Nursing is a 2 year full time advanced degree for registered nurses. Some options for pursuing higher education after Bachelors in Pharmacy are MSc Clinical Pharmacy, Master of Pharmacy, Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy etc The Course duration is 2 years mostly but may differ depending on chosen course.

Engineering courses in India:

Students aspiring to pursue a career in Engineering can choose for a 4 year under graduate course with various specializations namely Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Electricals, Automobiles etc.

Students must complete Class 12 in Science.

Diploma in Engineering are also available for studying after Class 10 or 12. The duration of these courses are 3 years

M.Tech is a 2 year full time post graduate courses offered to under graduate Engineering students.

The main Engineering Exams in India are Joint Entrance Exam – Main (JEE Mains), Joint Entrance Exam – Advanced (JEE Advanced) West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE), COMED – K, UGET, KEAM, BITSAT, VITEEE, MHTCET to name a few.

For Under Graduate Courses in Engineering students require to clear Class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognized Board or University with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Masters or Post Graduation education in Engineering requires students to be Engineering Graduates having minimum of 50% marks in B.Tech and have qualified in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) or other individual Post Graduate entrance exams conducted by individual Institutions.

Engineering courses which can be pursued without Mathematics are Agricultural Engineering, Architecture, Biotechnology, Leather Technology, Fashion Technology, Packaging Technology, Printing Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Textile Chemistry etc.

Law courses in India:

Graduates from recognized Universities can pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Law. Some course are dual degree courses which are of 5 years duration. The dual degree courses are open to students who are completing 10 + 2 or undergraduate in any subject. The general criteria for law courses are as follows:

  • LLB (Bachelor of Law)is a 3 year full time course
  • BA + LLB is a 5 year full time course
  • BBA + LLB is a 5 year full time course
  • B.Com + LLB is a 5 year full time course

Master of Law or LLM is 1 – 2 year full time post graduation course for graduate law students The different branches of specialization for a law student are International Law, Constitutional Law, Corporate Law, International Trade and Economic Law, Labour Law to name a few. Law aspirants needs to qualify in various entrance exams such as All India Bar Examination (AIBE), Common University Entrance Test (CUET), Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) etc
